The people behind knot & grain dining
meet the founders
We may carry a new name, but furniture is far from new to us. Founded by Rob, Rob and Stephen, our backgrounds span the full breadth of the trade: from sourcing the right materials and shaping them by hand, to understanding the small details that make a piece feel entirely at home.
That depth of experience informs every table we make. Proportions are considered before a single cut is made. Materials are chosen for how they age, not simply how they arrive. Every joint and every finish is built to be lived with, not just looked at.
The result is dining furniture made to last generations, not seasons, and to be kept and loved rather than replaced.
Knot & Grain Dining
One thing done properly
Dining Tables.
Materials
Every Knot & Grain table starts with slow-grown Slavonian oak, European, FSC certified. Slow growth means tighter grain and a denser, more stable board, the kind of timber that was never going to be rushed to market. The base is finished in the finest steel, built to carry the table for a lifetime, not just to hold it up on delivery day.
Craft
Every table is made with considered proportions, refined detailing and a commitment to lasting quality. The wood itself is protected with Rubio Monocoat, a hardwax oil finish rather than a lacquer. Instead of sitting on top of the wood as a layer, it bonds directly into the top fibres in a single application, so the table keeps the natural look and feel of real oak rather than the slightly plastic finish you get from a lacquered or varnished top. It’s also 0% VOC: no solvents, no water, no harsh chemicals off-gassing into your home long after the table arrives. That matters more than people realise. A dining table is somewhere children do homework, somewhere food gets put down straight from the oven, somewhere you spend hours of your week with your face close to the surface. A plant-based, solvent-free finish means better air quality in the room it lives in, not just a nicer-sounding ingredients list, and it’s food contact safe too, so there’s no second-guessing a plate set straight onto the wood.
Service
Buying a table from us doesn’t start with scrolling a product grid. It starts with a conversation about your space, your household, and how you actually use a dining table, not just how it looks in a photo. From there we help you land on the right table for you, and we tailor the dimensions to fit your room properly rather than asking you to make your room fit a standard size. Then we handle the rest. We deliver it, we install it, and we put it exactly where you want it, you don’t lift a finger.
